1st item: Rare pamphlet by Dr. Josiah Bartlett (1759-1820), "An Historical Sketch of Charlestown in the county of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts." First edition. Includes a medical history of smallpox and the Marine hospital. Matted with printed portrait and biography of Bartlett. Pamphlet 10 in. x 6 1/4 in. Mat 12 in. x 16 in. 2nd item: Autograph of Dr. William Osler (Canadian, 1849-1919), physician and researcher who was a founding professor of Johns Hopkins Hospital and author of the standard textbook of American medicine, "Principles and Practices of Medicine." Autograph on his printed letterhead, Baltimore. Undated. 9 in. x 5 1/2 in. Matted and framed under glass with printed bio and copy of a photograph of Osler, mat measures 20 in. x 16 1/4 in. 3rd item: Autograph of Dr. Edward A. Holyoke (1728-1829) of Salem, Mass., awarded the first MD degree ever given by Harvard Medical School; first to successfully use the smallpox vaccination; incorporator of the Essex Historical Society. Signed receipt from Cushing and Appleton "for the printing office." Dated Dec. 7, 1816. Includes old book page with printed portrait of Holoyke. 6 1/4 in. x 3 in. Matted: 18 in. x 11 in. 4th item: Dr. Isaac Hays (1796-1879), leading Philadelphia ophthalmologist and sole editor for 38 years of the American Journal for Medical Science, one of the founders of the American Medical Association. Portrait print with facsimile autograph, 8 1/4 in. x 6 1/2 in., page taken from a book. Matted together: 17 1/2 in. x 11 in. 

Condition

Holyoke autograph is adhered to the backing in one spot on the left side and one spot on the right side. The pamphlet is adhered to the mat with tape on all sides (preventing us from examining the interior of the pamphlet; all pages are assumed present). All other items are also adhered to mat with tape on all sides. All exhibit toning and foxing.
