Five (5) Chinese, likely Canton watercolor and gouache on silk paintings in four frames depicting men with queue hairstyles engaged in various occupations. Includes one (1) depicting a man gesturing towards the wares hung from a large portable display carried by another; one (1) depicting a pair of men cutting, frying, and plating food; one (1) depicting a man crouched between baskets carrying his tools mending a slipper while another man looks on; and a pair (2) framed together, one depicting two men bartering across a wooden counter and one depicting a seated man using a string tool to mend a circular item with staple repair with an observing man standing over his shoulder. All double matted with chrome patterned mat and housed under glass in ebonized wooden frames with gilt sight edges; one pair framed side by side. Single paintings: sight: 8 3/8" H x 5 3/4" W; framed: 15 1/8" H x 12 1/8" W. Pair: sights: 8 3/8" H x 5 3/4" W; framed: 15 1/8" H x 21 1/8" W. Qing period, late 19th to early 20th century.

Condition

All items overall good condition with minor warping to silk, scratches/indentions to silk, and inclusions under glass. Two with minor areas of toning/discoloration. One with minor loss to edge measuring 3/8" L. Not examined outside of frame. Frames with scattered losses to ebonized veneer.
