Henry Roberts (1756-1796), A General Chart Exhibiting the Discoveries Made by Captain James Cook, 1784. Original copperplate engraving from Cook’s Last Voyage published in 1784 by Strahan and Cadell of London. In 1766 Captain James Cook (1728-1789) of the Royal Navy was commissioned to undertake three historic voyages of exploration in the Pacific, resulting in the European discovery of the Hawaiian islands and the first accurate mapping of the Pacific Northwest among many other notable achievements. Roberts served with Cook on his second and third voyages and was assigned to maintain cartographic and hydrographic data, which he then used to create maps for the posthumous atlas of Cook's voyages. This map showcases the tracks of the Endeavour, the Adventure, the Resolution and the Discovery during each of Captain Cook’s voyages of exploration. Matted and framed under glass in a modern Koa wood frame. Sight: 37" W x 23 1/2" H. Framed: 50 3/4" W x 38" H.
