After Baldassare Peruzzi (Italy, 1481-1536) gilt and tempera on board of "Apollo Dancing with the Nine Muses" depicting the Greek god joining hands with a group of muses dancing in a circular formation with each muse identified in Greek on the painted scroll below. Housed in an ornately carved giltwood frame with egg and dart and acanthus decoration. Sight: 13 1/4" x 30 3/4" H. Frame: 25" H x 42 1/4" W. Italian, second half of 19th century. Note: The original version of "Apollo and the Muses" by Peruzzi is in the Palazzo Pitti, Florence.

Condition
Some scattered retouching to areas of gilt loss and denting to the panel, especially in the right upper quadrant and upper center, largest area approximately 2 1/2". Some scattered paint loss to subject matter and gilt background. Areas of later scratching and errant inscriptions by a child predominately concentrated in the lower left-hand corner. Frame with some wear and loss to gilt paint and decoration, especially to the external perimeter.
