Classical Revival Sterling Silver Oval Tray with engraved Medallion decoration to center surrounding a vacant central monogram reserve, enclosed in a guilloche chased border, all raised on four scrolled paw feet. Stamped on underside for Ball, Black & Co., New York, 925/1000 and "sterling". Measures 16"W x 12"D x 1 1/4"H. 34.25 oz troy. Circa 1868. This tray descended in the prominent Brinkley - Snowden family of Memphis, Tennessee and was used at their historic mansion Annesdale, which still stands in the city's Midtown area. The mansion was a wedding gift in 1868 to Col. Robert Bogardus Snowden (1836-1909) and Annie Overton Brinkley (1845-1923) from her father, tycoon Robert Campbell Brinkley, and remained in the family for more than a century. Several other pieces of silver, documents, and paintings from Annesdale are also being offered in this auction.
Condition
Excellent condition, minimal surface wear/scratching.

Payment must be received no later than five (5) days after the sale.
Unless you are a known customer of Case Auctions, payment for all gold, precious metal, and gem lots must be made by bank wire transfer, ACH, certified bank check, or money order. No exceptions.
If you pick up your lots from any of our galleries, Tennessee state sales tax will apply. Sales tax will only be waived if you provide a valid resale certificate from your state of residence.
If paying with a credit card, a 3.5% credit card processing fee will be applied to the final sales price (i.e. hammer price + buyer's premium + applicable taxes). If you have a credit card on file with Case, any winning bids will be automatically charged (up to $3000) along with applicable fees 72 hours after you receive your invoice unless other arrangements have been made.
