Batsell Moore (American/Tennessee, 1919-2010) large oil on canvas painting depicting the antebellum style Nashville mansion of the late Jesse Stallings and family. Signed lower right and dated July, 1971. Sight: 43 1/2 in. W x 26 in. H. Frame: 49 in. W x 31 in. H. Note: this house, a landmark on Hillsboro Road (located between Tyne Road and Harding Place), has been home to some of Nashville's most notable residents. It was built in 1930 and originally owned by Dewitt Thompson Jr., the founder of Thompson Machinery. Jesse Stallings (1909-1979), the founder of pioneering charter airlines Capitol Airways, purchased the home in the late 1930s. Stallings' wife sold it in the 1970s to Irby Simpkins, the publisher of the Nashville Banner. And in 1992, Simpkins sold it to record executive Mike Curb. Artist biography: Batsell Moore was born in Texas and studied art at Baylor University and Watkins Institute in Nashville (under Marion Cook). He specialized in farm and western landscapes and had a one man exhibit at the Parthenon in Nashville; he also exhibited in numerous galleries throughout the Southwest.

Painting is in excellent condition. Frame with wear and scattered small losses.
