Civil War Era photograph album of East Tennessee interest with CDVs and Tintypes of Union officers and soldiers and three (3) additional unframed CDVs.1st item: CDV album containing approximately 25 cartes-de-viste (CDVs) and eight (8) tintypes. There are seven of the twenty five CDVs depicting Union soldiers and officers including one CDV of a Union soldier in a longcoat and Kepi marked "Capton Walter - Company G 138 Regt" with marks for J. H. Young studio, Baltimore, MD (Captain James H. Walter, wounded at the battle of Opequan, VA in 1864 and discharged March 26, 1865) and another full length officer CDV portrait with a Brady's Studio stamp. Of the eight (8) tintypes, one tintype with painted gilt highlights depicts a Union soldier with his sword unsheathed and a revolver in his belt. Other tintypes include a younger man holding crutches and conjoined twins taken from an engraving or painting. Images housed in a brown embossed leather album and brass hardware, 6"H x 4 1/2"W x 2 1/2" D. In addition to the album, this lot also includes a CDV of Union General B. F. Butler, a CDV engraving of Major General Heintzelman, and a CDV of J. D. Massengill of Sullivan Co., TN (incorrectly identified with attached notes as S. E. Massengill). Dr. John David Massengill (1844-1919, Sullivan Co.) served as a private in Company B, 4th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment (CSA) and graduated from the Baltimore College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1874.

Condition

Album with sleeve binding separated from spine. CDV images with various toning, foxing, and a few with scuffed edges. Small loss to frock coat of Captain Walter CDV, approx. 1/16". Tintypes with with minor scratches and light flaking and rubbing to edges.
