Collection of 16 Andrew Jackson (b. 1767-d. 1845, President 1829-1837) engraved and lithograph prints, most related to the War of 1812, where he gained fame as the hero of the Battle of New Orleans, including 1 rare engraved copy of an 1815 Andrew Jackson portrait miniature and note from Jackson addressed to Edward Livingston, published circa 1864 by Alexander Hay Ritchie, engraver, after the artist Jean Francois Vallee, 8" x 8 1/2" sheet. Also included is a scarce engraving, depicting American Generals of the War of 1812 including Jackson at the top, published circa 1814 by Tanner, Vallance, Kearney & Co., 12" x 10" overall. The remaining items include Battle Scenes, mostly unmarked, or from books, and portraits of General Jackson by artists and sources including Charles Phillips after John Wesley Jarvis; Gimbrede after Wheeler; unknown after John Vanderlyn; and P. Maverick after S. L. Waldo. 5 portrait prints contain no artist or source data. All American and European, 19th century. Sheet sizes range from 4 3/8" x 3 1/2" to 14 3/4" x 11".

Condition

All encapsulated (not laminated) in protective plastic covering, and in overall very good condition with minor expected toning, foxing, light creasing and handling marks. The Northern European engraved portrait of Jackson after Vanderlyn has significant losses to lower edge.
