Ornate and heavy Continental .800 silver basket with Rococo style openwork cartouche, shell, and acanthus motifs, having two C scroll side handles and four rocaille feet. Signed "Posen" with German .800 silver hallmarks. 2 1/2"H x 17"W x 12"D, 31.7 oz troy. Circa 1915. Note: The Posen company was considered one of the finest silver retailers in Germany and the country's largest supplier of Judaica in the late 19th and early 20th century. It was founded in 1869 by Brendina Wetzlar, the widow of silversmith Lazarus Posen. The company ceased operations in 1938 as a result of the Holocaust. Objects from Posen are held today by the Frankfurt Historical Museum and the Frankfurt Jewish Museum. 

Condition

Excellent condition. No monograms or monogram removal apparent.
