David Eugene Girin (French, 1848-1917) oil on canvas painting, "Fishing Party on Lac de Sylans, Ain," 1891.  A woman and man sit back-to-back in a rowboat tied to a pole or tree trunk that rises from the surface of a lake. Both have fishing poles -- his is placed behind him -- and a basket and net hang over the side of the boat at left. The woman's veil blows gently in the wind. Signed and dated, lower right. Housed in an ornate giltwood frame with Sotheby's France label affixed to verso. Sight: 21 1/2 in H x 31 in W. Frame: 33 1/2 in H x 43 1/4 in W.

Overall very good condition. With frame abrasions and associated retouching especially along right and lower edges, largest area to lower left corner, 2 inch x 1 1/2 inch. See UV photography. Frame with minor abrasions and losses.
