Elizabeth Galbraith McIntyre Jewell (American/Massachusetts, 1874-1956) oil on canvas board painting of a New England farmhouse on a sunny day, rendered in shades of purple, green, pink, and blue. Signed E. G. Jewell, lower right. With estate stamp en verso. Housed in a speckled giltwood frame with nameplate. Sight: 15 1/4" W x 17" H. Frame: 18 9/16" W x 21 3/8" H. Biography: "Elizabeth Galbraith Jewell was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She became an impressionist landscape painter who began seriously pursuing her art interests after her children had grown. She studied at Boston University in 1898 under Phillip L. Hale, Susan Ricker Knox, Laura Coombs Hill, and George L. Noyes, between 1916-1923. Additionally she studied under Charles Woodbury at the the Ogunquit School, and Frank Leslie. Her work was exhibited at the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA, the Brick Store Museum, Kennebunk, ME, and was part of the exhibition titled "Charles H. Woodbury & His Students" at the Ogunquit Museum of American Art in 1998. She was a member of the Merrimack Valley Art Association. Jewell painted in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and Ogunquit and Monhegan, Maine." Source: Peter Falk, "Who Was Who in American Art"
