English School, 19th century, oil on canvas marine painting depicting a ship on calm waters, illuminated by a pink and yellow sunrise or sunset. Unattributed monogram signature lower right. Verso with Winsor & Newton Canvas stencil mark. Gilt placard to front center of frame reads, "Presented by D. Cory-Wright, Esq. 1927." Housed in the original 19th century gold gesso frame with ovolo, ribbon, and bead moldings. Canvas - 22 1/2"H x 30"W. Frame - 30 1/2"H x 41"W. Note: The plaque on the front likely refers to Dudley Cory-Wright, son of Sir Cory Francis Cory-Wright, 1st Baronet Cory-Wright. Sir Cory Francis Cory-Wright held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (DL) of Middlesex and was a Justice of the Peace (JP) for Middlesex and London.

Condition

Overall good condition with some scattered craquelure and grime. A couple of small spots of retouch visible under UV light, primarily in upper left quadrant, sky area, including a 1/2" repaired tear. Tiny flake near signature. Frame has several scattered small dings and losses to gesso.
