English 18th century chinoiserie chest of drawers / dresser, oak and pine secondary woods, decorated with Japanned black lacquer and enamel surface. Rectangular overhanging top on a plain case with bracket feet. Two short drawers over 3 long drawers, each in graduated sizes, with dovetailed drawers, pierced and engraved brass keyhole escutcheons, and brass teardrop and petal pulls. Four (4) vertical backboards. 34 5/8" H x 36 1/4" W x 19 1/2" D.

Cracking, crazing and exfoliation to lacquer and enamel surface finish, with losses to some sections of enamel. General surface wear, abrasions and scratches. Losses to small sections of backboards. Warping and veneer bubbling to sections of the top. Separation to some joints. Separations to drawer bottoms and wear to drawer guides. Additional update - examination of the bottom of the case indicates possibly earlier bun feet with dowel holes in each corner and circular quadrant paint outlines. Examination of the back left foot facing in addition to unpainted areas on the inside of the feet facings shows patinated wood close to the same color as the bottom of the chest. Consequently, if the chest had earlier bun feet, the bracket feet replacements may have been added in the late 18th/early 19th century.
