Jerry Malzahn (Texas/Arkansas, 1946-2019) oil on canvas California landscape painting titled "Yosemite Valley" depicting a panoramic view of the Sierra Nevada mountains with a fallen tree and river in the foreground, grassy meadow ringed by trees in the middle ground, the peak of El Capitan in the left background, and other granite peaks in the right background. Signed in red lower left corner J. MALZAHN with gilt placard to lower frame edge with artist and title. Housed in a contemporary parcel gilt and molded wood frame. Sight: 35 1/2" H x 47 1/4" W. Framed: 44 1/2" H x 56 1/2" W. Note: This painting was acquired by the consignor directly from the artist who personally installed it in their home. Artist Biography (Adapted from askART): Born and raised in Stuttgart, Arkansas, Jerry graduated high school 1964. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Storekeeper Second Class during the Vietnam War. After the war and his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Navy, Jerry moved to Texas and enrolled in the University of North Texas where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management. He subsequently founded the Malzahn Landscape Company, which he owned and operated for over 40 years. It was during this time that Jerry met and married Lyla (Thompson) Malzahn, and they settled in Coppell, TX. At the age of 48, Jerry began to devote himself to landscape painting and he specialized in Texas and Colorado landscapes. His panoramic landscapes were modeled after those of 19th-century landscape artists.
