Steven Lang (California, b. 1960) oil on canvas full-length portrait painting titled "Strength of a Nation" depicting a Native American woman wearing traditional hide clothing, standing in a grassy field bathed in warm light, holding a bull skull by the horns, and gazing into the distance. Signed "OPA [Oil Painters of America] (copyright) Lang" lower right. Housed in a natural-painted wooden frame with gilt fillet. Gilt metal placard with title, artist name, and OPA affixed to center bottom frame. Sight: 36" H x 24" W. Framed: 44 1/2" H x 33 1/4" W. Note: Original Mountain Trails Galleries receipt available to winning bidder. Artist biography: Descended from Pawnee and Cherokee ancestors, Steven Lang has always been interested in Native American subject matter. Through his love of period reenactments and all things Western as well as his paintings, Lang seeks to depict the legacy of America's western heritage. Lang was recognized as an Oil Painters of American Master signature member in 2002 and has been commissioned by the National Park Service to depict the 1868 Battle of the Washita among other national organizations.
