Pen and ink wash drawing on paper attributed to Joseph Farington (United Kingdom, 1747-1821) that depicts a village canal scene at King's Lynn, Norfolk, with structures and a church along one side of the canal, with figures and a stone bridge with figures conversing, c. 1789. Leger Galleries Ltd., London label en verso. Laid down and housed in a gilt wood frame. Sheet: 9 in. x 10 1/4 in. Sight: 11 1/8 in. H x 12 1/8 in. H. Framed: 18 5/8 in. H x 19 1/8 in. W. Note: This drawing was likely produced by Farington for reproduction in aquatint etching in the book SIX IMITATIONS OF DRAWINGS EXECUTED BY J.C. STAEDLER, FROM DESIGNS BY J. FARINGDON [sic], R.A., published by William Byrnem, 1789. Another version of this drawing, signed and dated 1787, is in the collection of Winchester College. For an example of the etching see British Museum, accession number 1877,0609.1762.

 

Condition

Both the drawing and the frame are in very good condition.
