Kentucky Sheraton cherry sugar chest, poplar secondary. Rectangular case form having a plain partially hinged top opening to a divider, highly figured cherry front and figured case sides that dovetail into the base. The base with a shaped skirt and turned Sheraton feet. Beveled backboard with old paint script, "Mahoney". The case underside appears to retain all original glue blocks. 31 3/4" H x 32" W x 18 1/4" D. Kentucky (possibly Lexington area), Circa 1825.

The Collection of Michael and Peggy Mahoney, by descent from the historic homes of Clarkland Farm at Bryan's Station and Cherrycote, Lexington, Kentucky.

Condition

Refinished surface with some scattered expected wear and abrasions. Right side with sun fading. Interior divider appears to be a later replacement or addition with later added interior corner blocks. Top lock is a replacement. Some horizontal wood shrinkage to upper front case.
