British or Continental school oil on canvas landscape painting depicting a man on horseback who stops on a roadway as a woman approaches on foot. Sunlight breaks through the cloudy sky to illuminate the horse and rider while the trees at right shade the woman. Unsigned. With Robert Fisher Ltd., London, label marked "COHEN" affixed to back of frame. Housed in a gilt and molded wood frame. Sight: 35 1/4" H x 27" W. Framed: 49 1/4" H x 41 1/4" W. 19th century.
Condition
Overall very good condition. Canvas has been relined. Scattered retouching especially to lower cloud, thoughout 10" x 7" area. See U/V photographs. Craquelure primarily to areas of impasto, especially to trees and sky. Frame in overall very good condition with minor abrasions.
