Large English school oil on canvas river landscape painting, "Near Maidenhead on Thames," early 20th c. A small cargo steamer navigates the River Thames before a small village near Maidenhead, County Berkshire. Figures populate the opposite shore while dense vegetation grows at left and the surface of the river reflects the blue and pink sky. Signed "W. George," lower left. Housed in a giltwood frame with painted title and attribution. Sight: 29 1/2 in. H x 49 1/2 in. W. Framed: 38 1/8 in. x 58 1/8 in. W. 

Condition

L-shaped tear to sky, upper right, 1 inch x 1 inch. Horizontal abrasions with losses to sky below tear, 9-inch long, and to trees and sky at left, 12-inch long. 2-inch long horizontal abrasion with retouch to central cloud.
