North Carolina corner cupboard, yellow pine primary and poplar secondary, arched pediment with exaggerated dentil moulded top rail/cornice, centered 8 light hinged door with wooden knob and moulded mullions and muntins, opening to reveal three fixed shelves having scalloped edges. The door is flanked by two vertically fluted pilasters to each side, over horizontal waist molding separating the lower section, and a hinged central lower door with four divided beveled panels, keyhole and wooden knob, opening to reveal single fixed shelf, flanked by two vertical plain pilasters with chamfered edges to each side. Back of cabinet with long vertical planks, front with plain moulded base; canted sides. 82" H x 40" W x 24" D. Mecklenburg County, North Carolina,18th century. Note: Includes a photo album illustrating the cupboard in four photographs from 1936. The album notes that the cupboard originally belonged to a Mrs. Cates of Mecklinburg N.C. and was purchased from Hoover & Brockwell South Hill, VA 11-17-36; that it had minor restoration by I.L. Boone of Littleton NC, and was refinished by Hugh L. Moorse of South Hill, VA.

Condition

Older refinished surface with abrasions and wear, lock replaced.
