Due to transitioning to a more powerful cartridge, beginning in 1913 the Model 1896 rifles were converted to 1896/11s by replacing or modifying the action and barrel, the sights, and the stock by grafting a wooden pistol grip. Matching serial number "313274" on barrel, receiver, bolt, and magazine; "274" on buttplate and trigger guard. Stock with added pistol grip and early serial number "26371" and "BERN".
