New England Queen Anne Tiger Maple Highboy, 18th Century

Diminutive New England Queen Anne slipper foot highboy, tiger maple primary, cherry and poplar secondary, two part construction. Upper cabinet with a flat overhanging dovetailed top and cavetto molded cornice over two short drawers and three long drawers. Backboards secured with rosehead nails. Central stepped molding separating the two parts. The lower section with slender long drawer over short slender center drawer flanked with two deep side drawers, a scalloped skirt with two inverted finial terminations, resting on Queen Anne cabriole legs with slipper feet. Each lip-moulded and dovetailed drawer with stylized and decorated bat-wing hardware, some with matching keyhole escutcheon plates. Moving and storage label to back and a museum accession number to lower right. 66 3/4" H x 36 3/4" W x 21 1/2" D. American, circa 1740.

Condition

Overall very good condition with old refinish. Scattered surface abrasions, minor chips and shrinkage cracks. Dark stain to one drawer front. Some drawers with minimal buildup to sides due to wear. Front with worn drawer guides. Replaced hardware. Backboard panels reinforced with additional modern nails. Some old worm holes evident to top panel.
