Rare and unusual pair of 19th c. Old Paris Porcelain Vases, each featuring opposing Renaissance style figural male and female busts atop a body with hand-painted Biblical scenes. One depicts Abraham exiling the handmaid Hagar and their young son, Ishmael, while his wife, Sarah, and his other son, the infant Isaac, sit inside a tent. The other depicts Abraham's servant encountering Isaac's future wife, Rebekah, at the well at Nahor. The reverse side of each urn is decorated with an ornate floral spray. Each vase is of Rococo style form, with enameled gilding on a blue and white ground, with elaborate dragon, leaf, scroll and column motif handles and a base with four scrolled feet. Each with gilt-painted coat of arms to the top edge. 16 1/2"H. Unsigned. French, mid 19th century.

Condition

Both urns have had poor, but likely reversible, repairs and are being sold "as is." One urn has a repaired break to foot (with a stabilizer added) and a repaired break to the dragon handle, plus blue paint to interior. The other urn been extensively broken and repaired in multiple spots. The breaks are for the most part clean with minimal losses and primarily affect the feet, handles and upper edges.
