Philip Perkins (American/Tennessee, 1907-1970), "At-One-Ment," oil on canvas surrealist influenced abstract painting; freeform reserves of color are suspended above an ethereal blue/green plane, which transitions into a field of rectangles and squares in gradient tones. Whitewashed wood temporary frame, possibly part of a larger frame now missing. Signed "Perkins" lower right and dated 1950, also titled en verso. Canvas: 30 in. H x 36 in. W. Frame: 30 3/4 in. H x 36 3/4 in. W.
Condition
Scattered passages of minor retouching, especially to frame abrasions along edges, largest 1 3/4 inch long. See UV photography. Area of small dimples to canvas upper left quadrant. Frame has wear and some numbers written in marker to exterior edge, with nails extruding.
Provenance
By descent from the estate of Eugenia Moore, Nashville. Mrs. Moore was a longtime arts supporter in Nashville and a close friend and early patron of Philip Perkins.
