2nd - 3rd Items: POINTS OF HUMOUR, George Cruikshank (1792-1878). London: C. Baldwyn, 1823. First Edition. 2 volumes, 8vo. with 20 hand-colored plates. Gilt-stamped "Bound by Wood" to lower front turn in; 19th century dark green leather with gilt designs to covers and spines, with 5 raised bands, top edges gilt. Each 9 1/4 x 5 3/4 in.
4th - 6th Items: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF LEIGH HUNT; with Reminiscences of Friends and Contemporaries. In Three Volumes. London: Smith, Elder and Co., 1850. First Edition 8vo. in 19th C. fine binding, with a small letter signed by Hunt in 1st Volume bound in before half title. The short, two-page letter references Hunt's recovery from a recent illness and returning to his home in Kensington. Bound in 3/4 brown calf with marbled boards and endpapers, gilt-decorated spines, five raised bands, top edges gilt. "Bartlett & Co., Boston" and "Bound by Zaehnsdorf" on front endpaper. 8 x 5 3/8 in.
7th - 10th Items: THE WORKS OF OLIVER GOLDSMITH, Edited by Peter Cunningham. London: John Murray, 1854. 4 volumes, First Edition. Each with additional Illustrated title pages; Vol I with frontispiece. 8vo, Finely bound by Zaehnsdorf in 3/4 brown calf with marbled boards and endpapers, gilt-decorated spines, five raised bands, top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed. 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 in.
Each with bookplate of Lillian Stokes Gillespie. Note: Lillian May (Stokes) Gillespie (1869-1915) was an independently wealthy socialite from the Stokes family of New York, a line of enormously successful financiers and merchants.
Condition
Wordsworth: Front cover detached; leather dry and flaking; spine labels missing. Cruikshank: Bookseller pencil notations and listing label; spines with slight separations. Hunt: Each in Fine condition with slight wear to covers; pencil notations ffep Vol I. Goldsmith: Each with rubbing to corners; Vol I with pencil inscription; Vol III with cover detached.
