George Braun and Franz Hogenberg, two (2) 16th century hand colored European city view copperplate engravings on wove paper: Nuremburg or Noren Berga and Maastricht. Drawn by Simon a Bello Monte and published 1575 in CIVITATES ORBIS TERRARUM, the first systematic series of printed town plans. Each depicts a panoramic view of the city with noble figures in the foreground and coats of arms overhead. Both matted and framed under glass in silvered molded frames. Maastricht - Sight: 14 1/4"H x 19 1/4"W, Framed: 22"H x 27"W. Nuremburg - Sight: 11 1/2"H x 18 1/2"W, Framed: 19 1/2"H x 26 1/2"W.
Condition
Small crease or repaired tear lower right quadrant of Maastricht. "Nuremberg" is adhered to backing board. "Maastricht" not examined out of frame but is assumed also to be adhered to backing. Both prints with good color and light toning to background.
