Kathe Kollwitz (German, 1867-1945) bicolor lithograph in dark and light brown ink and scratch technique on ivory wove imitation Japan paper, titled "Bewaffnung in einem Gewolbe (Arming in a Vault)." Depicts a throng of armed peasants ascending a spiral staircase in advance of a revolt, including a woman whose face is left partially uncolored, emphasizing her emotional expression. Plate four from the cycle Bauernkrieg (Peasants' War), rejected version. From the Richter Edition, 1918. Signed "Kathe Kollwitz" in pencil, lower right, and signed and dated "Kollwitz 02" in the stone, lower left. Numbered in pencil 32/50, lower left, by publisher.
