Biographical Note: "Theodor Franz Zimmermann was a well-known painter of landscapes and animals, particularly horses and hunting scenes, and graduated from the Vienna Academy. Between 1839 and 1858 his pictures were often to be seen in its exhibitions. Zimmermann was born in 1808 in Nassereith in Tyrol. He lived until his death in 1880 in Vienna, where he worked in his studios, which he often changed. From 1855 very many of his pictures were commissioned for the Imperial Zoological Collection."
