Sam (Samir) Barber (b.1943, active/lives in Massachusetts/Italy), "Along the Shore," oil on canvas Impressionist painting depicting a young woman attired in a white and pink dress with bare feet and holding a white parasol, bending down to examine an object on a shoreline, with a body of water and trees visible in the background. Dated 1989. Signed lower left and housed in a carved gilt wood frame with linen liner. Sight: 29 1/2" H x 23 1/2" W. Framed: 38 1/4" H x 30" W. Biography: Born in Italy, Barber grew up in New York and earned a scholarship to the Art Students League. In the mid-1960s he was influenced by the Impressionist color theories of Henry Hensche in Provincetown, Massachusetts and subsequently adapted this technique in his own works. While Barber is primarily influenced by the landscape of Cape Cod where he lives, he sometimes travels in France and Italy where he paints public parks and gardens. He is a member of the Society of American Impressionists.
